Description:
The course will provide an
extended understanding on the basic concepts, applications, and strategies of
genetic engineering. Contents include a comprehensive introduction of
recombinant DNA technology, selected techniques for genomic and functional
genomic studies, and an overview on organism cloning and transgenic
organisms.
Learning
Outcome:
Knowledge
outcomes:
1. Acquire core
knowledge on molecular cloning: the concepts of gene cloning, hybridization
and blotting, screening and construction of gene libraries.
2. Acquire
updated information on DNA sequencing and application of PCR.
3. Acquire
ability to understand different approaches to study gene functions.
4. Acquire
understanding of organism cloning and transgenic organisms, including the
principles and potential applications.
Skills
outcomes:
1. Acquire
skills in literature survey using various sources including effective usage
of information technologies and web-based searches;
2. Acquire good
analytical and oral communication skills via class project presentation;
3. Acquire good
problem solving skill via course assessment.
