Description:
This is a
foundation course on telecommunication and related technologies. It describes
the essential elements of a modern communication system. Students will learn
the basic concepts in electrical communication, the operation principles and
the performance requirements for a real-world communication system. The
course is the basis of various advanced courses on electrical and optical
communication. The course includes mandatory laboratory modules.
Learning
Outcome:
Upon successful
completion of the course, students will be able to:
1. describe the
architecture of a communication system and explain the functions of each
system component
2. describe how
the frequency spectrum of a signal is changed in the communication process
3. describe how
noise, interference and channel distortion affect communication
4. describe the
major analog modulation techniques and state their advantages and limitations
5. state the
basic principles of digital transmission and describe different pulse
modulation schemes
6. describe
different keying techniques in digital modulation
