CUSIS科目資料	Description： Risk management is without doubt one of the most important issues in various aspects of the modern society. Quantifying risk management is not only a management tool, but is also a scientific activity. This course aims at introducing the role of risk management in modern society. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the role of risk management and its impact on every day life both at personal and institutional level.   Learning Outcome： This course develops the students' basic concepts of risk management in broad terms. After the course, the students are expected: l   to understand the evolution of risk management science in the modem society (T1, T2, T6). l   to identify and evaluate potential risks in daily life (T1, T3). l   to develop a systematic, although conceptual, approach in handling various types of risks in life and work (T3, T4, T5). l   to appreciate the need of continuous development in risk management techniques to adapt the ever-changing economical and social environment (T1, T6).   Topics: T1: Basic risk management concepts: classification, identification, evaluation. T2: Economic theories underlying risk management. T3: Risk management in daily life: e.g. health risk and retirement risk. T4: Risk management using insurance. T5: Risk management using financial derivatives. T6: A case study of risk management evolution in modern society.

CUSIS科目資料	Description： Students will learn the basic concepts of statistics, so that they will be equipped to understand statistical reports and recognize when the quantitative information presented is reliable. They will also learn about organizing and displaying graphical and numerical summaries of data, and drawing conclusions from them. The course uses computer interactive techniques, instead of tedious arithmetic calculations, to introduce simple but powerful statistical concepts. Topics include exploratory data analysis, statistical graphics, sampling variability, point and confidence interval estimation, hypothesis testing, as well as other selected topics.   Learning Outcome： Upon completion of the course, students should be able to  (1) understand basic concepts in statistics;  (2) use various statistical methods and techniques to summarise, present and analyse data;  (3) read statistical reports and recognise when the quantitative information being presented is accurate or misleading; and  (4) use computer software to analyse data and draw conclusions.
