#1 內容有趣,本身對 天文/宇宙學/外星探索 有興趣嘅絕對適合 take 呢科,唔需要計數亦唔需要 Physics 底。

功課係短答題目,全部都係 Lecture Notes 搵到答案,唔明就搵 Google 大神啦。

Final Close book (大部分 MC +少量短答題),全部上堂有教過,溫下書再用下常識撞下答案,應該唔太難嘅。

Presentation 2 人一組,Topic 自由選擇但要同 course 嘅主題相關,Present 之前要寫個 outline lecturer 過目 outline 唔計分),如果唔 OK 會彈返轉頭叫你再揀過 Topic,所以應該無可能因為 present 而爛 grade

Description

The course aims at providing an introduction to the formation of the cosmos and the origin of life from an astrophysical perspective. The journey starts from the origin of the universe, and leads us through all the intermediate milestones such as the appearance of matter, the formation of galaxies, the formation of stars and planets, the appearance of simple life forms, and the evolution of life on Earth. Students can thus develop a complete picture of the current understanding of the emergence of life in the cosmos, and gain perspectives of the scientific method that allows us to arrive at the knowledge.

 

Learning Outcome

After completing the course, students should be able to

recall and understand the basic idea and steps of how life comes into being in the astronomical perspective;

demonstrate their understanding of the relationship between various component topics of astrobiology;

form their opinion of the implication of the scientific knowledge of the origin of life on human’s position in the universe and the history of the universe;

gain intellectual perspectives and appreciation on the development of the astrobiology field in particular, and the multidisciplinary study of problem in general;

understand the basic principles of scientific method through examples.

#1 講天文topic 有理論有計數 幾有趣 比大通天文UGEB2401深少少 但有基本物理知識(DSE phys)take 計數方面都唔會太深 唔使Calculus。讀過UGEB2401 大通天文嘅話唔take得。功課冇source 佢年年都出份新 但有上堂嘅唔難做,唔take attendance 可走堂

Description

The course aims at introducing basic concepts of astronomy and astrophysics, assuming only a secondary school physics and mathematics background. It is designed not only to present a volume of knowledge, but also to arouse students’ curiosity in how nature works. Topics include: the universe at different scales, the Earth and the sky, lunar phases, tides and eclipses, the rise of modern astronomy, theory of motion and gravitation, relativity, the solar system, measuring stars, birth of stars, structure of stars, post-main-sequence evolution, the death of stars, neutron stars, black holes, galaxies and cosmology. Optional activities, for examples, star-gazing trips and visits, may be arranged.

 

Learning Outcome

1.acquire basic knowledge about astronomy and astrophysics and to be well prepared for advanced study in astrophysics

2.gain an insight into how scientists approach a problem and how they apply the scientific method to seek answers

3.develop an ability to appreciate the beauty of the universe and to glance at the thoughts of the physics giants in history, so that physicists’ point of view can be cultivated.

Description
This introductory physics course covers selected topics in mechanics, thermodynamics, electricity, and modern physics. This is a non-calculus-based course, but some algebra and trigonometry will be used. This course is designed for students with HKDSE Combined Science with a physics component, and the selected topics make up the missing parts, as compared with HKDSE Physics. It is suitable for students in the physical sciences, biological and medical sciences, earth science, and for those in other majors who want to learn some basic concepts of physics for their later courses. Students with HKDSE Physics, or a good preparation in HKDSE Combined Science with a physics component and HKDSE Mathematics may benefit more from taking PHYS1111.
Learning Outcome
1. Provide an understanding on topics in mechanics, thermodynamics, electricity, and modern physics that supplement those in HKDSE Combined Science with a physics component
2. Provide the necessary background for students to pursue a major in science and other disciplines
3. Appreciate the relevance of physics, especially its fundamental role in difference fields in science and engineering
4. Acquire some problem solving skills
5. Appreciate the quantitative nature of physics
