Description
This course provides a general overview on major psychological theories of learning and their implications for teaching. Emphasizing on the application of theories in teaching practice, the following topics are introduced:
1) Behavioral, cognitive, social-cognitive, and socio-cultural theories of learning;
2) Basic cognitive processes: attention and memory;
3) Higher-order cognition, embodied cognition, and metacognition;
4) Cognition and instruction;
5) Classroom management;
6) Motivation and individual differences;
7) Design and implementation of classroom assessments

Learning Outcome
Upon completion of this course, students are expected to
1. Demonstrate an understanding of major behavioral, cognitive, social-cognitive, and socio-cultural theories of learning and motivation
2. Apply knowledge of basic cognitive processes (attention and memory) to educational settings
3. Describe higher-order cognition and use embodied cognitive and metacognitive strategies to improve educational practices
4. Devise effective classroom strategies to accommodate individual differences among students
5. Apply effective strategies to foster students’ motivation
6. Acquire basic concepts of classroom management and school discipline
7. Develop knowledge of assessment strategies and use them to improve classroom learning and teaching
