Description
This course seeks to expand and improve students’ understanding of corporate communication and show how (1) reputation is one of the most important assets to organizations; (2) corporate communication is strategic in nature; and (3) corporate communication is used to establish and manage organizational reputation. To reach these goals, students will examine a variety of cases and readings that will help them understand how corporate communication relates to reputation management in an organization at normalcy and in crisis. The course will start with familiarizing students with the basic concepts and principles of corporate communication. A particular emphasis is placed on understanding corporate communication in various organizational settings including multinational corporations, NGOs, and governmental institutions.
Learning Outcome
By the conclusion of the course, students should have developed a deeper understanding and enhanced appreciation of corporate communication and reputation management concepts that could be brought to integrate in their daily practices. In particular, the students are expected to have attained the following knowledge by the end of the course:
- A solid theoretical and practical base for studying and analyzing corporate communication phenomena in reputation management.
- Application of theoretical and practical skills to convey effective messages in managing reputation in local and international corporate communication contexts.
- Analytical thinking to dissect corporate communication situations that threaten an organization’s reputation and to identify appropriate strategies and tactics.
- Professional ethics and two-way communication paradigm conducive to communicating messages to various publics.
- Commitment and passion towards professional development, intellectual curiosity and life-long learning.
- Effective social skills conductive to work setting.
