評價教學內容
#1內容涵蓋中國天文學、西方天文學、現代物理學、宇宙的誕生及演化等等。雖然我本身對這些不是特別感興趣,但大部分時間還是聽得很開心(主要是湯博士講得好)。內容不會涉及太多物理,不是讀理科的同學也可以放心reg。考試的MC頗有難度,不過這是件好事,因為你付出多少就收獲多少。好grade,只要稍微用點心,A range無難度。
#2 啲宇宙模型同天文運動可能要啲時間消化。(不過有動畫模型睇,應該好啲) 講中國天文嗰part比想象中佔嘅課時多,個人覺得少悶。 不過捱過中國天文就開始有趣返,學到嘢嘅。佢份term paper係book report嚟,中文要寫攞你命4000。有reading list要跟,仲有啲guiding questions,同埋要交first draft比湯博士con下先(好事嚟,幾十個人佢都肯individual consultation lol)。啲問題其實喺嗰堆書可以搵晒啲facts出嚟答晒佢,無咩詮釋空間可言,但此功課亦要求有個人見解,我唔係好明點樣有個人見解?_? 既然啲科普/天文史書已經寫晒各種歷史評價同quote晒啲四書五經,我哋作為門外漢除咗抄書之外仲有咩好補充?我智力有限,唔係好識寫份paper,不過出嚟個grade唔算太爛,鼓勵大家寫文多send email或者直接約佢問問題,理解多啲佢requirement 功課同考試有上堂或者睇番筆記都識做。不過一個sem有成3次功課,好似比我其他take嘅ug course甚至某啲major多嘢,仲要有final x_x 完全唔似第一個reviewer寫到咁輕workload,final都唔係mc嚟架lor 總結:學嘢心態想知多啲天文歷史嘢係informative enough嘅,但想養生嘅唔好take

#1湯博士超級超級超級好人!!!!!講課很有條理,風趣而又不會故作幽默,是我大通遇過最好的老師無誤。本來因為對天文學不感興趣所以沒打算reg,可是去sit了一堂後,立即drop了原本的大通reg了這個。

Description
The course aims at studying the human exploration of astronomical phenomena in the history, thereby disclosing the interplay between astronomical activities and the cultural, social, and scientific aspects of human lives, as well as the deep and authentic relation between the celestial bodies and the lives on earth. Topics include: astronomical traditions of ancient civilizations and their social functions, astronomical phenomena found in ancient books, literature, myths and their scientific explanations; the impact of scientific revolutions in the Renaissance and the 20th century on our views of the universe, human thought and modern civilization, the influence of cosmic events on the lives on earth, the quest for extraterrestrial lives. Star-gazing activity is included to enhance students’ interest. The course is designed to help students with little or no science background gain intellectual perspectives on the interplay between science and culture, and our subtle relation with the universe.

Learning Outcome
-          Students gain a understanding of the interplay between the astronomical traditions of ancient civilizations and their cultural and social backgrounds.
-          Students gain intellectual perspectives on the history of science, the interplay between science and other human activities, and the impacts of science on human thoughts and modern civilization.
-           Students acquire some basic knowledge in astronomy, gain a understanding of our position in the universe, and our deep and subtle relation with various cosmic events.
-          Students gain intellectual perspectives on the modern astronomical discoveries and their implications on our views of the universe.
-          Arouse students' curiosity and stimulate their imagination on the mysteries of the universe, thus providing some motivation for life-long learning.
-          Students gain hands-on experience in star-gazing and he motivated to learn more about the cultural and historical aspects of science.
