Description: The purpose of
this course is to learn the mathematical and computational method for finite
element analysis. Students will learn the computational procedure, basic
elements, shape functions and the method for imposing boundary conditions.
The numerical implementation for finite element analysis will also be
learned. Finite element analysis software will be used in project to solve
engineering applications. Learning
Outcome: Upon completion
of the course, students should have achieved the following outcomes: (1) be able to
apply knowledge of engineering mathematics and science, to the finite element
modelling and analysis; (2) be able to
design a component using finite element method to meet desired needs within
constraints, such as safety, manufacturability and sustainability; (3) be able to
formulate and solve engineering problems using finite element method; (4) be able to
use the computer / IT tools relevant to the finite element method along with
an understanding of their processes and limitations. |
