Description： The course
covers the foundation of classical mechanics at the undergraduate level.
Topics include: vectors, matrices and vector calculus; Newtonian mechanics of
single particles; calculus of variations; Lagrangian and Hamiltonian
mechanics; central force motion; dynamics of a system of particles; and
moving coordinate systems. Learning
Outcome： By the end of
the course, students will be able to: 1. manage the procedures to solve the
Newtonian dynamics of a particle in various standard situations, including
systems with harmonic potentials, and central potentials. 2. state and apply the concept of Lagrangrian
and Hamiltonian formalism of mechanics 3. describe and explain general features of
motion of a system of particles, and motion in moving frames |
