CUSIS科目資料	Description： This course aims to provide a general education on medical knowledge, so that students can have a basic understanding on several common diseases that can be encountered in daily life, especially the physiological and biochemical mechanisms behind the development of the diseases. To better illustrate some general aspects of medicine, this course is enriched by topics of medical research and informatics. Students coming from non-medical background may acquire general knowledge of the scientific basis of diseases and their related management as common people in the community. Students would find the medical information gained in this course useful in their daily life. Learning Outcome： After completing this course, students will be able to: 1. describe the causes of diseases that are commonly found in Hong Kong; 2. explain the strategies for the disease prevention; 3. appreciate the most up-to-date technologies in disease diagnosis and treatment; 4. criticize the ethical issues related to abortion and stem cell research; 5. practice skills for searching and selecting useful information from scientific journals using the web-based search engine "Pubmed"; 6. integrate the knowledge learnt from lectures in essay writing; 7. comment on recent advancement in biotechnology development; 8. propose possible directions of clinical sciences development in the future.
