#1 Physical Geography Derrick教,human geography

Description: This course
looks at the interplay between the natural and human aspects of the world’s
regions. Planet Earth is a complex system with diverse climatic zones,
landforms, geology, soils, vegetation and habitats; the processes and forces
leading to their evolution and formation are different in both spatial and
temporal scales. The course examines these complexities of nature and
discusses the ways in which different societies have dealt with it. Over the
history of human civilizations, different societies have taken very different
approaches towards nature. This is reflected in different aspects of social
institutions (political, economic, social, cultural, religious, etc.) that
human beings have created to organize themselves. Learning
Outcome: After taking
the course, students should be able to:
(1) Understand
diversities of the world in terms of physical geography (e.g., climatic
zones, landforms, geology, soils and ecosystems), regional geography
(national, regional and global scales) and human geography (races and
populations, economic and political systems, culture, religion, food and
agriculture, and energy usage) (2) Understand
the complex structure of the earth system and how human societies are formed
from the geographical, economic, social and political perspectives. (3) Analyse the
effect of human activities on the environment and vice versa. (4) Develop
critical thinking on the relationship between globalization and sustainable
development for a world of differences. |
