Description: This course
introduces the basic principles of quantum theory and their applications to
the atomic and molecular systems of interest to chemists. Topics covered
include the revision of the historical background on the failures of classics
physics, wave mechanics and electronic structure of atoms, chemical bond,
spectroscopy, and molecular structure. Learning
Outcome: 1. Students
will have some basic understanding of the foundational principles of quantum
theory. 2. Students
will be able to apply quantum theory to explain the atomic and molecular
structure. 3. Students
will have some basic understanding of the molecular spectroscopy. 4. Students
will be able to identify and solve chemical problems using appropriate
methods of quantum mechanics. |
